College Admissions Testing

The WHS Guidance Department recommends that students who plan to apply to college in fall take at least one standardized test, either the SAT or ACT. Most students will opt to take one test multiple times or try both the SAT and ACT, only to focus on the test where they performed the best.

Most students will take the SAT/ACT twice; once in the spring, typically May/June, and once in the fall, typically October/November. A junior who is enrolled in PreCalculus has the option of taking the SAT I/ACT in the earlier spring months (Jan., Feb., or Mar.), as they have completed Algebra II.

SAT II’s, also known as the Subject Tests, are not required by all colleges and universities. It is important that you check each college’s individual website for testing requirements.

If you have questions or concerns about your individual test plans, please do not hesitate to see your guidance counselor.
